Cabernet Gernischt is a unique red wine grape variety indigenous to China. With medium-sized berries and thick skins, it produces deep-red wines with strawberry and raspberry fruit aromas, complemented by complex vegetal notes of pepper and mushroom. Its uniqueness stems from its localized evolution in China—introduced from Europe by Changyu in 1892, it has adapted to Chinese terroirs through natural selection and hybridization. The Jiaodong Peninsula in Shandong is its core producing region, yielding wines with fine tannins and balanced acidity. In 2016, the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV) designated May 25th as "World Cabernet Gernischt Day," recognizing its global significance.
